Why I Left the Office—and Came Back with a Mission to Help Nonprofits Thrive
Hi, I’m Megan. I help small nonprofits do big things.
But like a lot of people in this field, my path here wasn’t exactly a straight line.
I used to work in a law firm, managing operations and HR at a high-end estate planning practice in Edmond, Oklahoma. That’s where I earned my SHRM-CP certification and fell in love with building strong company cultures. I found joy in helping people thrive at work—and in creating the kind of internal systems that allow organizations to reach their goals without burning out their teams.
But deep down, I knew I wanted to do something more mission-driven. So I took the first of many small steps toward working in the nonprofit world.
In 2020, I joined Community CARES Partners to help distribute emergency funding to Oklahomans facing eviction during the height of the COVID crisis. It was fast, messy, and important work. I helped build a team, develop systems, and stand up an entire process in just a few weeks. And I learned something crucial: nonprofits have huge potential for impact—but often don’t have the support systems or leadership training they need to be effective.
After that, I went back to the ground floor—literally. I worked as a kennel technician, an adoption specialist, and a cattery tech. Eventually, I became the office manager at Free to Live Animal Sanctuary. I learned the ins and outs of nonprofit operations from the inside, often with mud on my boots and a slip-lead in hand.
I started seeing the same patterns over and over:
✨ Incredible missions, but messy processes.
✨ Big hearts, but burned-out teams.
✨ Passionate leaders, but little training.
So I decided to step in where I knew I could help.
Why I Do This Work
I grew up in a service-minded family. My parents always told us that life is about loving others. That’s stayed with me, and it’s the core of my consulting business today.
I offer affordable, values-driven HR and organizational development support for small nonprofits—especially those working in criminal justice reform, reentry, domestic violence prevention, homelessness, and animal welfare.
I believe every nonprofit deserves access to:
Strategic, inclusive hiring practices
Clear employee policies and training systems
Leadership coaching rooted in compassion and collaboration
Fundraising and organizational support that actually helps you grow
I don’t just help people imagine what’s possible—I help them build the plan to make it real.
Let’s Make Your Mission Stronger
Most small nonprofits don’t have the resources to hire a full-time HR director or operations lead. That’s where I come in.
If you’re running a small nonprofit—or you know someone who is—I’d love to talk. Whether you need help building better systems, training your team, hiring with intention, or creating more impact with fewer resources, I’m here for it.
Let’s grow your good.
